What Jesus Says about Lust
27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.Matthew 5:27-30
What this means is that it’s necessary to go to extreme measures to remove this sin from our lives.
- Consider getting a flip phone for a time period, so you can’t look at it on your phone
- Consider getting rid of the internet for a time period, so you can’t look at it on your computer
- Consider getting an accountability app on your phone and all your computers and devices with an accountability partner (when you get back phone and internet). I use ever accountable
I did all three and they all helped greatly to help starve out the issue, and my time period was about 3 months. I also got married which greatly motivated me to stop. I fully stopped in 2018 after 18 years of addiction, but I didn’t try stopping until 2016 after I met Jesus, it’s possible folks, if you put in the effort. Not easy, but attainable. The starving out period was the hardest, but it gets easier and easier over time as your brain rewires. Now I have about the same likelihood at looking at it as I do have of robbing a bank, i.e. I know it’s wrong so I really hate it and will never do it, and I’m also aware of the severe consequences.
